Discover Real Matcha Options! #UjiMatcha is a hot favourite for many in Singapore — but do you know what Rainforest Alliance Certified or Organic Certified really means? And what’s the actual difference between matcha powder and green tea powder?

Here's a guide for all the #MatchaLovers in Singapore to learn how to spot 100% pure matcha — and why it matters.

What does Organic or Rainforest Alliance Certified mean?

Globally, organic and sustainability certifications are held to strict standards. Only a small percentage of high-quality matcha can earn these labels:

  • JAS Organic Certification (Japan)

Based on Japan’s agricultural standards, this certification ensures no chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used. It also requires full traceability of ingredients and prohibits contamination during processing.

  • USDA Organic (U.S.)

Matcha must contain at least 95% organic content to be labeled as organic under U.S. federal law.

  • EU Organic Certification

Established in 1990 to harmonize organic product standards across Europe. Products must meet a 95% organic ingredient threshold to qualify.

  • Rainforest Alliance Certified

Focuses on full supply chain transparency, sustainability, biodiversity protection, and ethical working conditions — all while ensuring food safety. At BE MY TEA, we’re proud to offer Rainforest Alliance Certified matcha, a step toward a more sustainable planet 🌱

Matcha ≠ Green Tea

抹茶粉VS綠茶粉

Powder Matcha Powder vs Green Tea Powder Matcha and green tea powder may look similar, but they’re not the same — and the difference starts at the farm. Matcha is shade-grown before harvest, increasing the chlorophyll content and resulting in its signature vibrant green color and umami flavor. In contrast, green tea powder comes from sun-grown tea leaves, resulting in a duller yellow-green or grey-green hue. When checking the label, look for: “Matcha” or “100% Pure Matcha” = best quality “Green Tea Powder” or “Green Tea” = not the same! Both are rich in antioxidants, but only matcha offers that deep, smooth flavour and ceremonial-grade texture.
